How to spot Asbestos in your Garage Roof

Here’s a recent case study from one of customers where we removed an asbestos garage roof during the creation of a new garage.
One of our customers approached us to revamp their garage into a functional space to use. Following this, we arranged a site survey free of charge to assess the garage and provide a recommendation on the best option. In this instance, for the customer to maximise the value received from their money. During the site survey, the customer also informed us that they wanted to improve the visual aesthetic of the garage to complement their property.
In most cases, a garage refurbishment is the most cost-effective solution, where we maintain the original structure of the garage but replace key components. Key components includes the roof, fascia’s, guttering, windows, garage door and side doors. However, in this case, the garage was composed of asbestos which presented a risk. We were unable to offer the garage refurbishment, instead opting for a full new garage installation which the customer was happy to proceed with.
Following this, the customer was provided with a full explanation of the new garage build and installation process. They were surprised but delighted to hear that the entire job would be fully managed by VSF. This included the removal of the old garage and safe extraction of asbestos. On removal, the customer is provided with a free asbestos removal certificate, which protects the homeowner by providing an audit trail for the disposal of the asbestos. Improper disposal of asbestos is against the law and the homeowner would be held liable for this if the disposal was not executed in compliance with asbestos regulation.
We then carried out the preparation work, which begins with the cement base. Starting with the base ensures that the new garage is installed on a structurally sound surface and helps to prevent any issues occurring in the future. Once the base work was complete and set, we revisited the location to install the new garage. This was one of our standard new apex garages which includes:
– Plastisol Coated Galvanized
– Steel Roof with Dripstop Membrane to prevent condensation
– UPVC Fascias & Guttering all round
– UPVC Window and Personnel Door
– Powder Coated Up & Over Garage Door (Installed with a Steel Subframe)
All products are designed to be as maintenance free as possible whilst maximising the security of the garage, including interlocking concrete panels, top of the range locking systems and structural integrity throughout. Our customer was pleasantly surprised with how easy the process was with VSF and delighted with their new garage build.
